For some people the diagnostic of Cancer means a dead sentence for us cancer became an opportunity. I will try to use an easy-to-
understand language to explain what cancer is. Since my mother got diagnostic with cancer I have been reading lots of books and I have
learned that cancer is the abnormally growth of tumors but not all cancers imply the growth of tumors of course, Leukemia for example. In
our body, cells regenerated by the billions. In this regeneration the DNA information in the cells that are going to be replaced are duplicated.
In this process can occur "mistakes" that produce damage cells and that is where the immune system goes into action
killing these damaged cells. The body is a wonderful machine that has a self-defense system that kills cancer cell
by billions every single day of our lives. However, if this self defense system is so sophisticated why we get
cancer? When the immune system fails to kill these damaged cells, they begin to grow uncontrollably and the last
resource of the body to defend itself is to "wrap" them in to a tissue; that is when the cells begin to growth in form of a tumor.
The causes for the failing of the immune system are not known. Many Scientifics say that the gens in our body are the cause of cancer
and many of them said that our life style is the principal cause of cancer. The body needs a healthy immune system to defend itself
but if we keep eating fatty foods and artificial stuff, we are not giving to our body enough vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that
are necessary. I believe that our life style is the main cause of cancer and at the beginning I said that for our family cancer
is an opportunity and I will tell you why. For us cancer has been an opportunity to know more about God, to keep our
faith stronger than ever, to know that life is short and there is nothing more precious that our health. We have
changed our life style; we use to eat lots of meat (chicken and beef), white rice and much other stuff that were
not healthy for us. Since the diagnostic of my mother we have been eating so much healthy food that we
can see the change in your body. For us cancer has been an opportunity to grow as person and to care
more about other people. For me Cancer has been an opportunity to see that God can make huge
change on us. God did make my mother stronger to bear the physically and emotionally consequences
of surgery and the chemotherapy sections. She has been such inspiration for me. I can say that I
have seen the power of God through my mother.
